About KeaBudget
Hi, I'm Muhammad Bilal, a software engineer in Auckland. I built KeaBudget while teaching myself how money actually works in New Zealand, and I share what I learn along the way.
Why I built this
I'm an engineer, not a finance person. A few years of trying to get on top of my own budgeting, tax and KiwiSaver turned into a habit of building little tools to answer my own questions: what do I actually take home, how much should I set aside as a contractor, what does 15% GST work out to. KeaBudget is those tools, tidied up and made free for other Kiwis, plus a budget tracker I actually want to use.
How I work
I build in the open and write things down as I learn them. The guides are plain-English notes on things I've had to figure out myself, grounded in public sources like Inland Revenue and Sorted. The calculators use the same official rules and tax rates, and I update them when the numbers change. You can follow along on the updates page.
The honest bit
I'm not a registered financial adviser, and nothing here is financial advice. It's general information and my own learning, shared in case it's useful. Your situation is yours: do your own research, and talk to a professional for decisions that matter.
