Tired of chasing flatmates every week? Track shared costs with KeaBudget →
Stop chasing flatmates for money.
KeaBudget is the free budget tracker built for Kiwis, with tools for shared costs so the power bill never turns into a flat meeting again.
Start using KeaBudget →How this is calculated
- Everything weekly
- Each bill is converted to a weekly figure (a $260/month power bill is $60/week), so weekly, fortnightly, monthly and yearly bills can be added together fairly.
- Even or by share
- Evenly divides the total by the number of flatmates. By sharedivides it in proportion to each person's share number.
- No surprises
- The per-person amounts always add up to the household total, so nobody quietly over- or under-pays.
Frequently asked questions
How should flatmates split the bills?
Splitting evenly is the simplest and most common. But if rooms are very different sizes, or incomes are, a weighted split can feel fairer. This tool does both: pick 'Evenly', or 'By share' and give each person a number.
How does 'by share' work?
Give each flatmate a share number, it can represent anything you agree on: room size in square metres, income, or nights spent at home. Someone with a share of 2 pays twice what someone with a share of 1. The actual numbers don't matter, only the ratio between them.
What bills should we include?
Anything the flat shares: rent, power, internet, gas, water (if you pay it), and things like streaming subscriptions or cleaning supplies. Enter each at whatever frequency it's billed, weekly, fortnightly, monthly or yearly, and we convert everything to a weekly figure.
Can we split different bills in different ways?
This tool applies one method across all the shared bills, which covers most flats. If you want rent split by room but power split evenly, run it twice, or use KeaBudget, which can track shared costs per person over time.
Is my data stored anywhere?
No. It runs entirely in your browser. The only thing that touches our servers is the URL you create with 'Copy share link', which you can send to your flatmates so everyone sees the same split.
Is this financial advice?
No, it's arithmetic to keep flat finances fair and drama-free.
