Questions, answered
- Snowball or avalanche, what's the difference?
- Both put a fixed amount towards your debts each month and roll freed-up payments onto the next one. Snowball clears the smallest balance first for a quick win; avalanche clears the highest interest rate first, which costs the least overall.
- Should I include my home loan?
- Usually not. This is built for consumer debt like credit cards, personal and car loans and buy now, pay later, where high rates make the order matter. A home loan is better looked at with the mortgage repayment calculator.
- Where can I get help?
- If repayments are getting on top of you, talk to your lender early about hardship options. The National Debt Helpline is free and confidential: call 1800 007 007 or visit ndh.org.au.
- Is my data stored anywhere?
- No. It all runs in your browser. The only thing that touches our servers is the URL you create with 'Copy share link', which contains just the numbers you entered.
