KeaBudget

Why there's no app store app, and how to put KeaBudget on your phone

KeaBudget works as an app on your phone without the App Store or Google Play: add it to your home screen in two taps and it opens full screen, like any other app, with the same data as your laptop.

People sometimes ask where the KeaBudget app is. The honest answer: you already have it. KeaBudget is built to work as an app straight from your phone's browser, and you can put it on your home screen in two taps.

Put it on your home screen

iPhone or iPad

  1. Open keabudget.co.nz/app in Safari (Chrome works too on newer iPhones) and sign in.
  2. Tap Share (the square with an arrow), then Add to Home Screen.
  3. Tap Add. KeaBudget now has its own icon and opens full screen, without the browser bar.

Android

  1. Open keabudget.co.nz/app in Chrome and sign in.
  2. Tap the ⋮ menu, then Install app (or Add to Home screen).
  3. Long-press the new icon for a shortcut straight to Add transaction.

It's the same KeaBudget with the same data as on your laptop, and it updates itself: no downloads, no updates to install.

Why not the App Store?

  • One person builds KeaBudget, and it's free. A web app means one version to build and test instead of three (web, iPhone and Android), so new things reach you sooner.
  • No app store cut, no app store tracking. It keeps KeaBudget free without ads, and keeps your money data out of one more company's hands.
  • Same everywhere. Phone, tablet or laptop: sign in and it's all there.
