See where your KiwiSaver lands at 65
A free calculator that projects your KiwiSaver balance at retirement from your salary, contribution rate and fund type, with the government contribution, ESCT and PIE tax modelled the way they actually work.
The most-voted calculator on the ideas board is live: the KiwiSaver retirement projection calculator. Put in your age, balance, salary, contribution rate and fund type, and it shows your projected balance at 65 in today's dollars, roughly what that is as a weekly income, and how the balance splits between your money, your employer's, the government's and investment growth.
What it models, honestly
- The 3.5% default employee and employer rates from 1 April 2026, stepping to 4% in 2028, with the 3%, 4%, 6%, 8% and 10% options.
- ESCT off the employer contribution, so what lands in the fund is what the fund actually gets.
- The government contribution at 25 cents per dollar up to $260.72, for ages 16 to 65, and not at all over $180,000 of income.
- PIE tax on returns at the PIR your salary implies.
- Fund returns and fees as clearly labelled assumptions you can change under Advanced, along with wage growth and inflation.
There is also a one-lever comparison: what the same person ends up with at each contribution rate, which is usually the most useful number on the page.
It is a projection, not a promise. Every assumption is written on the page with its source, and the numbers move a lot with the return you choose, which is rather the point.
